Nordic Making – tools and knowledge for pyrotechnic components in vehicles
Nordic Making develops BlastBox – a system that helps vehicle recyclers, dismantlers and workshops neutralise airbags, seat-belt pretensioners and other pyrotechnic components in passive safety systems.

From a practical problem to a complete system
In vehicle recycling and dismantling, a vehicle's passive safety systems must be handled before the material can be recycled. Airbags and seat-belt pretensioners contain pyrotechnic components and count as hazardous waste until they are neutralised.
BlastBox grew out of a concrete need on the workshop floor: a robust, documenting tool that lets recyclers and dismantlers fire pyrotechnic components in a controlled way – either inside the vehicle or after removal.
Today Nordic Making combines tools, a cloud portal for history and traceability, and training, so that vehicle recycling can be done safely, sustainably and in line with regulations.
Our journey 2010–2026
- 2010
First BlastBox version completed and Nordic Making founded.
- 2011
Wireless control built into the tool.
- 2013
New technical platform for firing pyrotechnic components.
- 2015
Improved cables for easier connections.
- 2018
App-controlled version for phone and tablet.
- 2021
BlastBox portal connected to environmental reporting systems.
- 2023
New cables for tightly placed connectors in vehicles.
- 2024
Machine learning for optical image interpretation introduced.
- 2026
Universal connector developed for connecting to detached pyrotechnic components.

Why BlastBox is unique
BlastBox is built for real dismantling environments: many outputs, wireless control and automatic documentation of every firing. It handles everything from single airbags to vehicles with many pyrotechnic components in one coherent workflow.
